Return to Wychwood Park
again brings out the sun

11/09/2023

On September 7th, the BPMA hosted its annual golf day at the esteemed Wychwood Park Golf Club, nestled near Crewe in the picturesque Cheshire countryside. This splendid venue came highly recommended by Past BPMA President Peter Reynolds, with the last BPMA visit dating back to 2018.

The course, resplendent in the glow of abundant sunshine, exuded a truly enchanting charm.
Thirteen teams eagerly took to the greens, vying for the coveted winner's trophy in the perennial Texas scramble competition. A subtle alteration from the previous year's scoring system, wherein each team player declared four Tee shots instead of three, resulted in a keenly contested competition.

Steve Smith, BPMA's Operations Manager, remarked, "This format lends itself splendidly to team play, as it alleviates the pressure of delivering a stellar shot every time. A player who falters or misses a putt has three other teammates who can salvage the hole with a stroke of brilliance."

A minor hiccup emerged when the number of players exceeded the available buggies. An appeal was made for volunteers willing to traverse the course on foot, eliciting an admirable response from BPMA members. Twenty players embraced the challenge and, by way of an apology from Wychwood Park, were presented with vouchers for a complimentary round of golf and £35 to indulge in the Pro Shop.

Steve Ashman of Ashman Media once again dedicated the day to capturing players' feats on and around the course. You can enjoy his exceptional video below.

As evening descended, a sumptuous meal provided the backdrop for the sharing of tales from the day's events. Before unveiling the results, Steve Schofield extended heartfelt gratitude to the event's sponsors—ABB, Brook Crompton, and WEG UK—emphasizing that without their invaluable support, the event would be improbable.

The results were then announced, with hearty congratulations bestowed upon:

1st Place and the Calpeda Shield: Stuart Turner Pumps

2nd Place: Flowtech

3rd Place: Reflex Winkelmann

The Longest Drive was conquered by Darren Hennighan of Brook Crompton (Below Left), while the Nearest the Pin accolade was claimed by Rick Child of Grundfos (Below Right)

Anticipation brews as the BPMA Golf Day promises to make a grand return in 2024.
